Mojo Patong — Steak, Sass, and the Best Seat on Bangla Road

Hi Traveler, it’s Journey Wilde with Gay Thai Travel, and last night I did something I almost never do in Patong: I sat down, ate a proper meal, and didn’t immediately regret it in the morning.

Mojo Grill & Bar sits literally across the street from the Bangla Road entrance sign. Literally. You stumble off the chaos of Bangla, you squint across the road, and there it is: low lighting, good energy, and the smell of something being grilled that makes your stomach growl loud enough to embarrass you. The location is almost unfair. It’s like someone said, “Where’s the one spot every gay man in Patong will walk past at least three times a night?” and then opened a steakhouse there.

Now where was I… right. The steak.

Straight Talk: Mojo is a European-style grill in the middle of Phuket’s wildest street. The menu reads like it was air-lifted from a good bistro in Melbourne, and honestly? That’s exactly what it is.

I ordered the Australian steak, because when a restaurant in Thailand is flying in beef from Down Under, you take that seriously. And Travel, I took it seriously. It came out cooked exactly how I asked, rested properly, sliced beautifully. The kind of steak that makes you go quiet mid-conversation, not because you’re rude, but because nothing you could say would be more important than what’s happening in your mouth right now.

Then Nadia appeared.

Nadia is the General Manager, and she has that rare quality that the best GMs all share: she makes you feel like you’re a regular even if it’s your first time through the door. She came over, checked in, chatted, laughed, and didn’t disappear into the kitchen for the rest of the night. She’s warm, sharp, and clearly runs a tight ship without anyone feeling the rope. I immediately wanted to adopt her.

Listen Up, Babes: This is not a cheap dinner by Thailand standards. Budget around 1,000 baht and up per person. But when the quality is there? It’s worth every baht, no haggling required. (You know how I feel about hagglers.)

The vibe inside is dark, cozy, and modern without being pretentious. Outdoor seating if you want to watch the Bangla Road parade go by, which, on any given night, is better than anything on Netflix. The bar is solid too. Cocktails, wine, the works. I may or may not have had one too many Espresso Martinis, but that’s between me and Nadia, who was gracious enough not to count.

Splurge vs. Save:

  • Splurge: Australian Wagyu Tomahawk. Do it. You’re on vacation.
  • Save: Start with the Beef Carpaccio, which is exceptional and won’t break the bank before the main event.

Is Mojo a gay bar? No, honey. Is it a gay-friendly spot with a killer steak, a wonderful GM, and a front-row seat to the most chaotic, glorious street in Thailand? Absolutely yes.

Journey’s Verdict: In a city full of tourist traps dressed up as restaurants, Mojo is the real thing. Go for the steak. Stay for Nadia. Stumble back onto Bangla Road after, slightly too full and completely happy.

🍑🍑🍑🍑 out of 5 — four peaches, because that steak had me feeling things.
